Prison Committee Report

The East Side Sangha at CMC has just received the White Heron Sangha donation of 22 copies of Thich Nhat Hanh’s  The Heart of Understanding: Commentaries on the Heart Sutra.  We will be studying and discussing the chapters over the next few months. 

We have also gotten permission for the inmates to have zafus in their cells and  rakusus (garments representing Buddha’s robes in the Zen tradition) for those men who have taken the precepts in a formal ceremony at the prison.

We recently finished studying the 24 recorded lectures on Buddhism by Malcolm David Eckel of Boston University . While we continue to face a constant array of challenges in the prison system, we are able to maintain a stable attendance of 25-40 men for our weekly meetings.
