Restorative Partners: Awakening and Action


 Talk by Theresa Harpin

 

 

Sr. Theresa Harpin has been a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, a community of Catholic women religious for over 40 years. Her life choice includes daily meditation, annual retreats and other extended experiences of spiritual direction, contemplation, mentoring and study.


From this well of spiritual practice she has served in a variety of capacities including Campus Ministry at Mt. St. Mary's College in Los Angeles and the Catholic Newman Center at Cal Poly; Parish Ministry with several communities in Southern California and Nativity of Our Lady Church here in SLO; Founder of the Get on the Bus Program at the California Men's Colony and most recently the Founding Director of Restorative Partners, an organization that works to heal all those impact by crime in the San Luis Obispo County.


Her educational experiences include a B.A. in Christian Ministry from Mt. St. Mary's College in LA; Graduate studies in Music at California State University at Long Beach; M.A. In Liturgical Studies from the University of Notre Dame, Indiana; Post-graduate studies in Biblical Archaeology in the Middle East with Catholic Theological Center in Chicago, the University of Maryland and Global Ministries University.


Sr. Theresa  feasts on the poetry of Gerard Manley Hopkins, Jessica Powers and Mary Oliver and finds great wisdom from two contemporary spiritual writers: Joan Chittister, OSB and Richard Rohr, OFM. Sr. Theresa is also an active member of two local interfaith leaderships groups: San Luis Obispo Ministerial Association and People of Faith for Justice
