Engaged Buddhism Activities

Sharon Rippner | Published on 11/30/2025

While the various projects of our Engaged Buddhism Committee continue as usual in their diverse services to the community, the Dignity Housing Project in San Luis Obispo will be ramping up during this next quarter. This project is located at the corner of Bishop and Johnson in SLO and will provide both longer term housing and short/interim housing units. It is this later housing, the short-term units, that WHS-Engaged Buddhism has pledged to support.

For this project, there are fourteen units that will be occupied for a few weeks to a few months while the residents are waiting for/preparing for longer term housing options to open. Our commitment to this program is for the initial furnishing of these fourteen units as well as helping with re-furnishing as needed as residents move in and out. We also hope to be able to be more involved in 1:1 support with the residents as this program gets under way.

Currently, between designated donations for this program as well as the funding we will receive from our Adopt-a-Poll work at the November 4, election, the initial cost of furnishing most of these housing units has been donated. However, we will have on-going refurnishing costs and so if you are so moved, targeted EB Dignity Housing dana will be greatly appreciated, Donations.

Also, if you would like to support this program by helping with shopping, setting up these rooms, and in other ways providing support for these residents, there will be opportunities to do so. There will be an organizational meeting for shopping duties on Friday, December 5. If you have not received an email about this already and wish to be involved in this process, please let Sharon Rippner know as soon as possible.
