Sunday Program Update

Kate Christensen | Published on 3/1/2026

White Heron Sangha’s Sunday Program 6-7:30pm, with casual tea and social time starting at 5:40, is our most special evening offered at the Avila Center and on Zoom. It’s special because Sunday Program is when we have our invited and returning teachers. Also please note that Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are also wonderful practice opportunities, each with their own flavor. At every program we welcome all to take refuge in the three gems of Buddha, Dharma and Sangha. On the first Sunday of each month we hope you will join us for the Refuge Ceremony at 5:30pm. All are welcome, all are cherished, and we warmly invite you to come.

Our Sunday Program especially brings us a rare opportunity to practice with many amazing, invited teachers including JD Doyle, Jim Behrends, Devin Hase, Dawn Neal, just to mention a few. White Heron Sangha is now 35 years old, and we are so fortunate to have many very experienced partitioners and wonderful teachers among us. And so we delight in having offerings from within our own community including our founders Rosemary Donnell, and James Coleman, and our Mick Malotte who brings you Mindfulness for Everyone on Wednesday night. We have so many others offering their experience and learnings as well. White Heron Sangha is fertile ground for progress on the path.

As a new experiment we now have a program of returning teachers. This allows us to develop deeper relationships with teachers in the three main traditions of Buddhism, Tibetan Vajrayana, Rose Taylor Goldfiel, Theravada, Vance Pryor and Zen Buddhism, Nenzin Brown. Each of these teachers return to White Heron Sangha roughly once a quarter so we have some continuity and we get to know these teachers and appreciate the teachings in a more intimate way. We invite you to check the website and get to know these returning teachers. Most of all we wish that all practitioners may benefit as well as all beings everywhere. Please let us know how this is working for you.

We live in a time and place where we have access to the Dharma. We can practice in Sangha along with wonderful friends on the path. We have wonderful teachers. The teachings are offered freely. Your generosity in the form of financial support and volunteer participation allows the sangha to fulfill its mission and we are grateful for you. We welcome all.

Please come early at 5:40 for conversation with tea and snacks. Sunday Program begins promptly at 6PM when our volunteer program host gives the welcome to our unique all-lineage, all-volunteer Buddhist meditation community, the White Heron Sangha! Yes, it’s all volunteer.

Speaking of volunteers, we could use a few new members of the Sunday Program Volunteer Team! We function as a real team, so you can commit to one Sunday a month knowing that others will cover you should you have to miss. Contact me Kate Christensen. We would love to have you on the team.

The Sunday Program Committee includes   Claudia Royal Coleman,Linda Elder, Kristy MooneyKat TuculetRosh Wright and Kate ChristensenMick Malotte is our past member guide. Members of the committee will tell you how being a part of planning enriches their practice and provides a way to give back for the gift of dharma they receive. Please reach out to any of us if you would like to be a part of the committee.

See you Sunday!
