More Time for Meditation

Ferri Erickson | Published on 8/30/2026

If you enjoy a little more time for meditation and practicing together with dharma friends, we invite you to join our Peace in Our Hearts Mindfulness Practice Circle. Peace in Our Hearts meetings are held on the first, third and fifth Thursdays each month from 5:30–7:00pm, in person at the WHS Center or on Zoom. Our practice is inspired by Thich Nhat Hanh (Thay) and the Plum Village tradition of Engaged Buddhism.

White Heron has a special connection to Thay’s teachings. Two of WHS early founders attended retreats with Thay in 1991, and his encouragement to create and practice with Sangha helped inspire White Heron’s beginnings. Thousands of Sanghas around the world practice in the Plum Village tradition. The WHS Peace in Our Hearts Practice Circle is the only one we are aware of in the Plum Village tradition between Los Angeles and Santa Cruz.

Our gatherings give us more spacious time to practice together, 45 minutes of sitting and walking meditation, with mindfulness continuing as we share tea and simple refreshments. We then spend time in dharma sharing, listening deeply to one another, reflecting on our own experience, and nurturing the friendship that grows from practicing together.

If you haven’t joined us before and this kind of practice speaks to you, we would love to have you come and experience the circle.
