One of the most important Pali terms that you may not know is papañca. It is the propensity of the mind to elaborate, seemingly endlessly, on sense objects, feelings and thoughts.
Papañca often loops in an obsessive way, upsetting mental calm and clarity. It blocks a clear seeing of reality as it truly is and, in the process, causes a lot of misery.
The opposite, Nippapañca, is actually a synonym for the fruition of the dharma path, Nibbana.
Through meditation, we can learn to see papañca in action and know how it comes about. And with his seeing can come a wonderful release of the heart and mind: a freeing, a resting, and an ease of being.
