Spiritual bypassing is the tendency to use spiritual ideas and practices to sidestep facing unresolved emotional issues, psychological wounds and unfinished developmental tasks. This is a common defense mechanism, especially among spiritual practitioners and within spiritual communities. And although this defense looks a lot prettier than other defenses, it serves the same purpose. The spiritual bypass shields us from the truth, disconnects us from our feelings, and helps us avoid the big picture. We'll introduce this topic then have plenty of time for discussion.
