White Heron Sangha warmly welcomes you to a two-day non-residential retreat with Vipassana teacher Pawan Bareja at the White Heron Sangha Meditation Center in Avila Village.
"Loving kindness, compassion, sympathetic joy, and equanimity flow around us all the time like air. Drawing from them sustains our presence."
As the nights become longer during the cold, winter months, we naturally turn inwards. This is the time to draw from the deep well of the Brahma Viharas or Heavenly Abodes of loving kindness, compassion, sympathetic joy, and equanimity. These life-transforming practices open our hearts and soothe our anxious minds and inner critics. In deep practice, they can also lead us into emptiness and liberation. In our daily life, as we nurture ourselves, we become more present for our friends, family, and community and feel a greater sense of connection, ease, and belonging.
The weekend will include dharma talks, sitting meditation, walking meditation, and dyad/group discussions. The sitting meditations will include some guidance. There will be time for questions and answers, and the retreat is appropriate for all levels of practice.
Pawan Bareja, Ph.D. is currently in Spirit Rock's Teacher Training program and is a Somatic Experiencing practitioner. She teaches workshops and daylongs on healing trauma using mindfulness at Spirit Rock, Esalen, Greater Good Science Center at 1440 Multiversity, and at various meditation centers in the San Francisco Bay area. Pawan has completed Spirit Rock's Community Dharma Leader program and is also a Buddhist Ritual Minister.
