Eihei Dogen is known as the founder of the Soto School of Japanese Zen Buddhism. He is not only considered one of the foremost teachers within the Soto Zen lineage, but is also generally respected as an important Japanese philosopher. His writings are rooted in his early training in the art of poetry and literature, intense study of Buddhist teachings, and deep insight gained through years of rigorous practice. Much treasured by students of Zen, his teachings are foundational to the Zen teachings and practice of today.
