2017 End of Year Financial Report
White Heron Sangha is again in a sound financial position as of the end of 2017. Our Sangha community and others who have attended our programs have been extremely generous with donations at our events, through our new monthly-giving Stewardship Circle, and as a result of our year-end annual fundraising appeal. Our net cash flow last year was approximately $20,000, giving us a nice cushion to start 2018. (For more detail, see 2017 Financial Summary, and 2017 Income and Expense.)
In May 2017, White Heron Sangha moved from Unity Church in San Luis Obispo, where we had been renting limited time slots for many years, to our own meditation center in Avila Village. Our rent, utilities, furnishings, equipment, and other expenses have significantly increased. However, having our own center has allowed us to expand our programming to most days of the week, and there has been overwhelming enthusiasm and support for our beautiful, welcoming venue and additional offerings.
White Heron Sangha’s sponsored programs in 2017 included: Sunday meditation meetings in the San Luis Obispo area (Unity Church and Avila Village), Atascadero, and Oceano; 4 meditation retreats led by well-known and respected teachers; Buddhism and dharma related classes, mentoring, mid-week sitting and discussion groups, and outreach programs, including feeding the homeless at Prado Day Center.
The Sangha’s source of income is from donations and retreat registration fees. We have no employees, and the operation of the facility is dependent on our many volunteers. Many thanks go to Carole Maurer, Board President, bookkeeper Carla Sosa, depositors Claudia Coleman, Lorelei Eggli, and Rosemary Donnell for their help with handling the money and bookkeeping activities in 2017. Also thanks to the Board and the Financial Stewardship committee members for their assistance and support with the significant growth of the Sangha during the past year.
White Heron Sangha also thanks the many people who donated throughout the year and at year-end during our annual request for support. The continuation of White Heron Sangha depends on the generosity of Sangha participants in the form of donations of supplies and equipment when needed, financial contributions, and volunteer service. Donations can be made online through PayPal and credit card, by periodic donations through your bank, or by check to White Heron Sangha. See Donations (Dana) for more information.
